Featured Woman Sherrie-Colaneri-Day-200w
Sherrie Colaneri-Day

Sherrie owns and operates The Family Medical Practice of Sherrie Colaneri Day, NP, LLC. She is the Chief Executive Officer and Clinician for the Practice. The Practice is the first independent NP office in the area and has been serving clients for 9 years. She offers a unique integration of nursing/medicine, and alternative health care. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, she provides health care that was traditionally only provided by physicians. Her Practice includes patients from infancy to late adulthood and she offers male and female health exams, diagnostic testing, preventive education, and comprehensive treatment plans. She is also qualified to write prescriptions. Hers is a very personalized service and she loves all aspects of her work. Besides keeping hours at her office, she makes house calls.  In addition Sherrie serves as Adjunct Staff at Regional Medical Center. This month we get a rare glimpse of the history and philosophy of one of our local medical professionals.

Sherrie was born and raised in Bridgeton, NJ. Her father, Anthony Colaneri, who passed away recently was of Italian descent and from Bridgeton, NJ. Her mother Mary Faye Connatser Colaneri  is of Irish/German descent and comes to the area via Tennessee. Her family’s background is a tribute to the melting pot philosophy of America. While very different nationalities, they created a family centered home on Pearl Street in Bridgeton consisting of Mom, Dad, Sherrie, and her 4 year younger brother.

When Sherrie was 6 years old, the family moved to Mulford Court. Sherrie enjoyed the outside and was seen riding bikes, playing games, and swimming in the neighbor’s pool with many of the neighborhood children. She loves camping out and has fond memories of a simpler life. It is most interesting that her office today is down the hill from her former family residence and she even visited the local doctor from whom she purchased the medical office practice she now operates. Talk about going full circle!

Sherrie attended Monroe Street School through grade 4 where she was shy, but participated in plays. Grades 4 to 8 she attended Immaculate Conception Regional School, where she played basketball, and ages 8 to 12 at Bridgeton Jr. and Senior High Schools where she participated in color guard and band and had lost most of her shyness. She loved going to the local YMCA and playing volleyball, as well as working on the balance beam and trampoline. Her skills were fair, but her goal was to have fun. She liked school and her friends, although there were periods of turbulence because of the times. Still she flourished, loved to learn, and never gave up. She graduated from Bridgeton Senior High in 1977, the last class before the division of the school.

Sherries continued her education.  In 1984 she received an Associates Degree of Science of Nursing from Gloucester County College, NJ.  In 1990 she received a Bachelors Degree of Science of Nursing from Widener University. In 1997 she received a Masters Degree of Science of Nursing: Family Nurse Practitioner, from the University of Delaware, Newark, DE. She is Board Certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Prescriptive Drug Authority which permits her to write prescriptions for medication including controlled drugs.

Her Professional Activities include (2001-2009) Chairperson and Coordinator of first Local Tri-County Chapter of Advance Practice, (1990) Sigma Theta Tau International, and (1987-1989) Perinatal Cooperative. Sherrie is a Clinical Preceptor for NP students from Rutgers, University of Medicine and Dentistry, Stockton State, and Wilmington University.

Her post graduation education is ongoing concerning family medicine, neuroscience, and alternative medicine.

Sherrie is married to Michael Day
who is a Public Works Manager and is the love of her life and greatest supporter. They love to travel and most favorite locations are often seaside. They share a love for the outdoors, wildlife, and music. They have been married 25 years and while they have no biological children they enjoy lots of nieces and nephews from age 3 to 23. They have 3 God children and of course you have to count the 2 black Labs who are 3 and 6 years old.

Sherrie has a full and rich life and takes life’s painful and difficult times in stride. She believes God has helped her to be the woman she is today and that He has shown her great favor.  He has guided her through difficult periods. Sherrie believes she would not be who she is today if not for the experiences and God’s grace.

Her hobbies include music, guitar, art, fashion, reading, and spending times with loved ones.

She has always been an active person and often would be involved in many things at once. She recently learned to slow down, pace herself, and find balance within her physical and spiritual self.

Her Mantra is:
Risk more than others think is safe.
Care more than others think is wise
Dream more than others think is practical
Expect more than others think is possible

The one thing she would tell a woman today is BE able to take care of you.  This may be why I feel such a connection to Sherrie. I, too, think this is very important for today’s women.

We are extremely lucky to have this caliber of women in our county. Thanks Sherrie for sharing.
